The City of Santa Ana in collaboration with Sahuayo, Mexico commissioned the Sahuayo Sister City mural to celebrate the shared cultural heritage and vibrant connection between the two cities. The City of Santa Ana formalized its Sister City relationship with Sahuayo, Mexico in 2022, which was further solidified during the City of Santa Ana’s visit to Sahuayo in 2023. This joint mural project in Downtown Santa Ana emerged from the relationship as a symbol of cultural collaboration.

The City awarded the mural to four artists: Brian Peterson and Zaoone representing Santa Ana, and Nago and Miguel Ángel Sánchez Amezcua representing Sahuayo. The artists worked together online to design the mural, blending their artistic styles seamlessly.
